The Resort

You will not race the Streif. You will ski right beside it. Run 21 runs alongside the most famous downhill in the world and passes every name you know from television: the Mausefalle, the Hausbergkante, the Zielschuss. The start house sits next to the top of the Hahnenkamm gondola, and getting yourself up there is worth the ride on its own. Beyond that: 233 km of piste, 58 lifts, more than 40 mountain huts and 14 marked ski routes for when groomed snow stops being interesting.

Lodging & Après-Ski

Your base is the Gasthof Schweizerhaus in Stuhlfelden, on the Salzburg side of the mountains. The Buchholzer family will provide you with half-board and run the Gasthof the way these places should be run: a proper Pinzgau kitchen with plenty made in house, a wood-panelled Stube, a hotel bar that locals also come by, and a small wellness corner for whatever the day has done to your legs. And the ski area starts a short way up the road at Mittersill, at the Pass Thurn end of KitzSki.

Good to Know

Run 16 has a free Skimovie course, 280 metres of giant slalom with a camera pointing at it. Your run turns up online under your keycard number. Bragging rights, or evidence.
