Freeriding, powder, ski touring – they’re the dream… until the snow starts to move. Our one-day Avalanche Safety Course gives you the essential know-how to enjoy the backcountry with confidence. Through a mix of indoor theory and outdoor practice, you’ll learn how to read terrain, understand snow conditions, and recognize which avalanche types are especially dangerous – and how to avoid them. The training is suitable for all levels, whether you’re new to off-piste or already chasing powder lines. You’ll also get hands-on practice with avalanche beacons – let’s hope you’ll never need those skills for real! Beacons are provided, but if you own your own safety gear, bring it along.
When & where
The theory session takes place indoors, followed by outdoor exercises – so dress comfortably and for the weather. The course will be held at Cronberger Anlage 13 (same location as the AGM venue), just a short walk from the Alkmenestrasse tram stop (Line 18) or easy to reach by car (Sat Nav: Alkmenestrasse 60, parking available behind the gardens). The entrance is through the Kleingartenverein, behind the playground at Herrenapfelstrasse/Alkmenestrasse. The course starts at 10am and lasts 6-7 hours. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
One day of learning could make all the difference for many more seasons of safe adventures.
We are doing our best to offer exciting and safe trips for our season 2024 / 25. Please try to support the club as much as you can so that we can offer you more trips to the mountains.
